A serious case of alleged sexual assault has rocked General Hospital in Oro, Kwara State, where a final-year university student has accused a hospital staff member of administering a suspicious injection that rendered her unconscious before allegedly assaulting her.
Victim's Harrowing Account
Ifeoluwa, a 400-level Education student, visited the hospital for medical treatment when the disturbing incident occurred. According to her detailed account shared on the popular Yoruba investigative program Kokoro Alate on Agidigbo FM, she was receiving intravenous drip treatment when the accused staff member, Oyeniyi Kayode Olayinka, approached her.
"He always presented himself as a doctor, and everyone in the hospital believed his claim," Ifeoluwa revealed. "But when I returned later to submit a formal complaint, the Chief Medical Director confirmed he wasn't actually a qualified doctor."
The student described how Olayinka insisted on giving her a "strong injection" to accelerate her recovery. "I asked him to wait for my friends to arrive, but before I could complete my sentence, he had already injected me. I immediately lost consciousness," she recounted.
Discovery of the Assault
Ifeoluwa reported regaining partial consciousness minutes later, experiencing sharp pains in her private parts and noticing an unusual taste in her mouth. Demonstrating remarkable presence of mind, she preserved her saliva as evidence of the strange substance.
When her friend eventually arrived at the hospital, she discovered both Ifeoluwa and Olayinka inside the hospital toilet. The staff member claimed he was merely assisting the student who needed to use the restroom.
Subsequent examination by her friend revealed traces of sperm and blood, confirming that sexual assault had occurred. This discovery prompted the victim to confront Olayinka the following day.
Accused Staff Member's Response
During the radio program, Olayinka offered a conflicting version of events while inadvertently making compromising statements. He acknowledged knowing Ifeoluwa for over a year and described her as a "friend" who frequently visited his workstation.
While denying the sexual assault allegations, Olayinka admitted to paying the student N100,000 with a promise to settle the remaining N150,000 of a demanded N250,000. "I told her I didn't have that amount, but to avoid problems because I understand how serious such accusations can be, I agreed to pay," he stated during the broadcast.
More damaging evidence emerged when the program played audio recordings where Olayinka allegedly confessed to the assault. In one recording, he reportedly told Ifeoluwa he would advise her parents to seek spiritual help because "when he was inside me, he felt something strange."
Hospital and Government Response
The Kwara State Hospitals Management Board has taken decisive action following the allegations. In an official statement, the Board confirmed the staff member's immediate suspension pending comprehensive investigation.
"The Kwara State Hospitals Management Board has an ongoing formal investigation into allegations that a patient was sexually assaulted at the General Hospital, Oro," the statement read.
The Board emphasized its zero-tolerance policy toward unethical conduct and committed to ensuring transparency throughout the investigative process. "We are determined to uncover the facts and ensure that appropriate steps are taken in accordance with the law and Public Service Rules," authorities assured.
Additionally, the Board promised to strengthen security measures across all healthcare facilities under its jurisdiction to prevent similar incidents and protect patient safety and dignity.
Police authorities have taken custody of the accused staff member for further investigation as the case continues to develop.
