Police Apprehend Suspect in Connection with Fatal Altercation in Ibadan Community
The Oyo State Police Command has made a significant arrest following a violent incident in Asalu Community, Lalupon, Ibadan, which tragically led to the death of an individual. This action is part of the Command's ongoing proactive efforts to maintain law and order and safeguard lives across the state.
Details of the Incident and Police Response
Preliminary investigations indicate that community authorities reported to the Iyana-Offa Division after being alerted by local security guards about a confrontation involving a group of youths within the community. The altercation resulted in injuries, prompting the immediate transportation of the affected individuals to Ojo Oluwa Hospital in Iyana-Offa for urgent medical attention.
Unfortunately, one of the victims, identified as Kehinde, also known as "Ogo Ojigbo," succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Upon receiving the report, a team of police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Supol Iyana-Offa, swiftly responded by proceeding to both the scene of the incident and the hospital.
Arrest and Ongoing Investigations
At the locations, photographs were taken for thorough documentation purposes, and one suspect, Giwa Sodiq, was arrested in direct connection with the fatal altercation. The body of the deceased has been transferred to the Adeo State Hospital Morgue on Ring Road in Ibadan for preservation and to facilitate an autopsy as part of the investigative process.
Authorities are actively pursuing other suspects who fled the scene, with efforts focused on apprehending them to ensure comprehensive prosecution. The police have emphasized their commitment to resolving this case fully and bringing all responsible parties to justice.
Statements from Police Leadership
The Commissioner of Police for Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, commended the rapid response of the operatives involved in this case. He urged residents to remain vigilant and to report any criminal activities promptly to assist in maintaining community safety.
CP Haruna also made a public appeal, encouraging individuals with credible information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects to come forward and cooperate with the police. He expressed appreciation for the continuous guidance provided by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, in strengthening community policing initiatives and enhancing law enforcement effectiveness throughout the state.
