The Niger State Police Command has successfully apprehended a man suspected of a violent robbery that left a commercial motorcycle operator fighting for his life. The incident, which involved the attempted murder of the rider and the theft of his motorcycle, occurred in the Maje area of the state.
How the Attack Unfolded
According to a statement released by the command's spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Mohammed Adamu, and an accomplice now at large, posed as passengers. They hired the motorcyclist from the Auwal Ibrahim Modern Market, requesting to be taken to Maje.
During the journey, the duo instructed the rider to divert onto a secluded road. Upon stopping at a point along this lonely path, the suspects attempted to make payment. It was at this moment that one of them launched a brutal assault, striking the rider on the head with a piece of iron. The assailants then fled the scene with the victim's Bajaj motorcycle, leaving him severely injured.

The police at Maje Division received a report about the crime on December 21, 2025, at about 9:45 PM. Acting swiftly, operatives on a stop-and-search duty at the Maje nipping point were immediately alerted. Their vigilance paid off within a short period.
Mohammed Adamu was intercepted while in possession of the unregistered Bajaj motorcycle believed to be the one stolen from the victim. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to participating in the crime.
Confession and Ongoing Manhunt
