Mayor Confirms Swift Paid $160,000 Permit Fee

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced Friday that pop superstar Taylor Swift paid $160,000 for a permit to hold her wedding with NFL star Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden earlier this month. The mayor made the disclosure when asked whether Swift would reimburse the city for police overtime costs associated with the event.

“Taylor Swift has paid already the cost of the permit that was lodged, which was over $160,000 for that event and for the response to that event,” Mamdani told reporters.

The wedding, which spanned two days across Manhattan, attracted hundreds of celebrities and required a significant police presence. Officers shut down streets surrounding the massive indoor arena to accommodate the event.

While the total cost of the wedding remains undisclosed, Forbes magazine estimates it exceeded $20 million. The couple also donated $26 million to several charities prior to their marriage.

Swift Covers Costs Amid Scrutiny

Questions had arisen over whether Swift, a billionaire, would pay for the public safety resources used during her wedding. Mamdani’s statement confirmed that the permit fee covered the city’s response costs, alleviating concerns about taxpayer burden.
