A Michigan teacher who filmed herself engaging in sexual acts with a teenage student at his home has been sentenced to prison after confessing to a colleague. Jocelyn Sanroman, 27, received a 15-year sentence after pleading guilty to third-degree sexual conduct.
The educator was arrested in 2025 after admitting to a coworker that she had sex with a 16-year-old student she was tutoring in 2023. At the time of the offense, she was teaching at Oakside Prep Academy in Waterford Township. She also recorded the abuse on video.
The presiding judge expressed shock at the recording, stating, "This is serious risk-taking behavior, taking advantage of a minor and videotaping. You're having sex with a minor at his home, right? And it's just disgusting." The judge then asked Sanroman, "What do you have to say? What were you thinking?" The teacher replied casually, "Not my best thinking."
Defense Cites Mental Health Issues
Sanroman's defense attorney argued that mental health problems contributed to her actions. "She made a tremendous error of judgment here. She's working forward and trying to do her best to become a better person," the lawyer said.
Victim's Mother Delivers Emotional Statement
The victim's mother provided a heartfelt statement in court, detailing the lasting impact on her son. "I have watched my son change. He has become withdrawn and avoids people because of the fear and attention the situation has created. I had pulled him out of school to place him into online schooling. His normal life, his education, his routine, and his sense of security was taken," she said.
Following her prison sentence, Sanroman will be placed on the Michigan sex offender registry for life. This case follows another incident involving teacher Angela Faith Jourdan, who was fired after allegedly twerking and grabbing a student during a classroom meltdown at a Florida school.
