A 16-year-old girl in India has tragically passed away following a brutal sexual assault and poisoning. The victim, who was allegedly gang-raped and forced to consume acid at her home in Hamirpur district, Uttar Pradesh, died after fighting for her life for over a month.
A Month-Long Fight for Survival
The horrific crime occurred on October 28, 2025. According to reports, three attackers, one of whom is a minor, carried out the assault. After the attack, the girl's family first sought help at a community health centre in Sarila. From there, she was referred to Jhansi Medical College, where she received treatment for approximately 12 days.
Seeing no improvement, her family moved her to Hamirpur district hospital and then to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital in Kanpur. She spent about 15 days at the Kanpur facility before doctors, due to her critical condition, referred her to SGPGI in Lucknow. After two days there, the family faced a devastating financial hurdle.
The Final Struggle and Death
The hospital requested 2 lakh rupees for a crucial surgery, an amount the family could not afford. They then transferred her to King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow. Doctors in the surgery ward stated she needed an immediate blood transfusion.
Jalalpur Police Station Inspector Ajit Singh arranged for two units of blood through hospital staff. The transfusion was administered on the night of Thursday, November 27. However, it was too late. Around 1 a.m. on Friday, November 28, the girl experienced severe breathing difficulties and was placed on a ventilator. She succumbed to her injuries at 2 a.m.
Police Action and Investigation
Police had already taken action prior to her death. The minor accused was detained on November 9 and sent to a juvenile home. Inspector Ajit Singh confirmed that the other two adult suspects were arrested on Friday, November 28, the day the girl died, and were undergoing interrogation.
In a significant procedural step, officers from the Lucknow Police managed to record the victim's official statement just a few hours before she passed away. The identity of the victim has been protected in line with Supreme Court directives concerning sexual assault cases.
This case has cast a spotlight on the extreme violence faced by women and the arduous journey victims often endure through multiple healthcare facilities, compounded by financial burdens, in a fight for justice and survival.
