Three Arrested for Murder of NSCDC Officer in Kano

The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has confirmed the arrest of three individuals in connection with the brutal murder of one of its officers.

Officer Killed While Preventing Crime

The victim, 29-year-old officer AbduRauf A. Shariff, was fatally stabbed by armed assailants. The tragic incident occurred on January 1, 2026, while Shariff was performing his official duties at the Corps' outpost located on Court Road in Kano.

According to the official statement released by the command's spokesperson, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, the officer was attacked when he attempted to intervene and stop a criminal act. The armed hoodlums were reportedly engaged in phone snatching and other illicit activities in the area.

Arrests Made and Manhunt Launched

"Unfortunately, the criminals were carrying weapons which they used in killing him after causing serious injuries on him," SC Abdullahi stated. Following the attack, NSCDC personnel who arrived at the scene managed to apprehend three of the suspects and recovered their weapons.

The Corps has now initiated a collaborative effort with the Nigerian Police Force to track down and arrest other suspects who fled the scene after participating in the attack. This joint operation aims to ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice.

Officer Laid to Rest

After a mandatory medical examination, the slain officer, AbduRauf A. Shariff, has been buried. His funeral rites were conducted in accordance with Islamic traditions.

This event highlights the dangers faced by security personnel in the line of duty, particularly when confronting armed criminals. The NSCDC has reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, vowing to continue its operations despite such risks.
