The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the discovery of three children's bodies in the home of a female native doctor in Umuduba Village, Ideani Community, Idemili North Local Government Area. The children, aged between 6 and 15 years, were found lifeless in the residence of the woman known locally as Ezenwanyi.
A fourth child was rescued alive, thanks to the swift intervention of the President General of Ideani Community, Chief Paul Okoye, alongside the Divisional Police Officer of Ogidi Division. The survivor was rushed to a hospital, where she is currently receiving medical treatment.
Police Investigation Underway
The police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. He stated that the command has launched a full-scale investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The female suspect has been taken into custody, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough, professional, and evidence-based investigation.
According to the statement, "The Anambra State Police Command, today, 5th August 2026, expressed profound sadness over the discovery of four unconscious children at a residential premises in Umuoduba Village, Ideani, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State."
Rescue and Medical Response
Upon receiving the information, a rescue team led by police operatives from Ogidi Police Station rushed the victims to a hospital for emergency medical attention. Unfortunately, three of the children were certified dead by medical doctors, while the fourth victim is currently in critical condition and receiving treatment.
Police operatives arrived at the scene alongside the Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area, Mr. Stanley Nkwoka. The prophetess was taken away by police for questioning.
Appeal for Calm and Condolences
Ikenga extended the command's condolences to the families of the deceased and sympathized with the community. He urged the public to remain calm, refrain from spreading unverified information, and allow the police to conclude their investigations.
The statement added, "Police Operatives are hopeful that subject to the survivor's recovery and medical clearance, the testimony of the surviving child will assist in unraveling the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident." The bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
"The Command while extending its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and sympathizes with the people of Ideani Community over this heartbreaking incident, urge the public to remain calm, refrain from spreading unverified information, and allow the Police to conclude their investigations," the statement read.
