According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abayomi Jimoh, on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, the incident was reported by the child's mother, Mrs. Olanireti, who resides on Ioso Street in Ogbagi Akoko. She had sent her son, Alex Ayobami, to visit his grandmother, who lives behind her shop, on March 22, 2026.

Shortly after, a concerned citizen, identified as Oni, raised an alarm upon noticing suspicious activity involving the child. The mother rushed to the scene and discovered the two suspects attempting to escape on an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle with her son.

Community Intervention and Police Response

The child's grandmother, Mrs. Olawale, courageously intervened by holding onto the motorcycle to prevent the suspects from leaving. Other alert residents quickly mobilized, blocking the escape route and ensuring the suspects could not flee.

Police operatives arrived promptly at the location, leading to the successful rescue of the child without any injuries. The suspects were apprehended at the scene, and the case has been transferred to police headquarters for a discreet and thorough investigation.
