Security Operatives Nab Diesel Thieves at Telecom Facility

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Bauchi State has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against infrastructure vandalism with the arrest of two individuals accused of stealing 600 litres of diesel from a telecommunications mast.

According to official statements released on Saturday, November 15, 2025, the suspects were apprehended during surveillance operations at the MTN mast located in Sabon Kasuwa-Railway area within Bauchi Local Government.

Details of the Arrest and Confession

The NSCDC Public Relations Officer, ASC. Saminu Yusuf, identified the arrested individuals as Abdulrahman Jibrin, a 20-year-old male, and Munarak Halilu, aged 31.

The arrest occurred on November 12, 2025, when NSCDC officers on routine patrol caught the suspects in the act of siphoning Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) meant to power the generator serving the MTN telecommunications mast.

During preliminary investigations, both suspects made startling confessions, admitting they had been systematically stealing diesel from the same location for an entire year before their eventual capture.

Official Response and Legal Proceedings

Commandant Oloyede Nelson Oyerinde, while addressing journalists, praised the dedication and vigilance of his personnel in protecting critical public infrastructure from criminal elements.

The NSCDC chief reiterated the corps' determination to eliminate crimes and vandalism across the state, issuing a stern warning to other potential offenders to abandon such illegal activities or face the full weight of the law.

The suspects are currently in custody and will be prosecuted in court once investigations are complete, marking another step in Nigeria's ongoing battle against telecommunications infrastructure sabotage.
