The Oyo State Fire Services Agency (OYSFA) has successfully recovered the bodies of two individuals after a vehicle plunged into a river along the Amuloko area of Ibadan, the state capital. The incident occurred on Friday when a Toyota Avensis, which had no identifiable registration number, lost control and veered off the road before submerging in the Ariyo River located in Ona Ara Local Government Area.
Rescue Operation Details
Confirming the event on Saturday, the Chairman of OYSFA, Maroof Akinwande, stated that the agency received a distress call and promptly dispatched a rescue team to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters observed that the vehicle was completely submerged in the river and immediately initiated rescue operations. Akinwande explained, “On arrival, it was confirmed that the vehicle had swerved off the road and submerged in the river. The rescue team immediately commenced operations by applying all necessary rescue procedures and successfully recovered two casualties from the vehicle.”
Handover to Police
The recovered bodies were subsequently handed over to officers from the Nigeria Police Force at the Ogbere Divisional Police Headquarters for further action. Akinwande added, “The victims were handed over to officers of the Nigeria Police Force led by ASP Adesuwa Sesan from Ogbere Target Police Station, Ibadan, for further necessary action.” As of the time of filing this report, the identities of the deceased have not been disclosed, and the circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
This tragic incident has raised renewed concerns about road safety and accidents involving vehicles on major roads and bridges across Oyo State. The Oyo State Fire Services Agency continues to urge drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such occurrences.
