The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Chairmen of Ika South and Ika North East Local Government Councils in Delta State have died in a fatal road accident. Comrade Nwama Emmanuel Jolly, Chairman of NULGE, Ika South Local Government Council, and Comrade Nnamdi Memeh, Chairman of NULGE, Ika North East Local Government Council, lost their lives on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, while returning from a NULGE meeting held in Orerokpe, the headquarters of Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State.
Details of the Accident
According to reports, the two labour leaders had travelled to the meeting by public transport. On their return journey, they boarded a Toyota Sienna vehicle. Tragedy struck between 6 and 7 pm along the Idumuesah/Owa-Oyibu Road when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while attempting to avoid a collision with a motorcyclist who suddenly rammed into their path.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Sienna somersaulted several times before coming to a stop, leaving several occupants with varying degrees of injuries. The victims were immediately rushed to the Government General Hospital, Owa-Oyibu, where Comrade Nwama Emmanuel Jolly was confirmed dead.
Medical Response and Fatalities
Comrade Nnamdi Memeh, who sustained critical injuries and was placed on life support, was later referred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba. Despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life, he also succumbed to his injuries.
The tragic deaths of the two union leaders have plunged workers, political leaders, colleagues, friends, and residents of Ika into mourning.
