The Ogun State Police Command has achieved a significant breakthrough in its ongoing investigation with the arrest of two suspects in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode. The individuals are allegedly connected to a kidnapping and murder case in the Okada area of Edo State.
The arrest occurred on June 4, following the apprehension of the suspects by operatives of the Nigeria Forest Security Service. Subsequent investigations into their activities led to the breakthrough. The Command's spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Abeokuta. He stated that the breakthrough resulted from intelligence-driven investigations by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
According to Babaseyi, the suspects have been identified as Gafaru Adamu, 25, and Muhammed Sanni, 20. He explained, "Following extensive profiling and investigation, the suspects were identified as being wanted in connection with an ongoing kidnapping and murder case reported in the Okada area of Edo State." Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects were members of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate linked to the crime under investigation.
During the operation, police recovered one pair of police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones from the suspects. The exhibits have been documented and secured for further investigation. The police spokesperson noted that the offences under investigation were committed outside Ogun State. In line with inter-state policing procedures and collaboration among state commands, the suspects and recovered exhibits will be transferred to the Edo State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.
Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their professionalism and intelligence-led policing approach, which led to the arrest and recovery of exhibits. He reaffirmed the Command's commitment to preventing criminals from using Ogun State as a safe haven or transit point for illegal activities. Ojajuni also assured residents that the Command would continue to deploy proactive policing strategies and strengthen inter-state collaboration to enhance public safety. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies to support the fight against crime.
