UBA Debunks False Divorce Rumours About Chairman Tony Elumelu

UBA Group has officially dismissed as false and malicious the divorce rumours circulating on social media regarding its Group Chairman, Mr. Tony O. Elumelu, CFR.

The bank issued a formal notice describing the publication as a deliberate falsehood designed to mislead the public and cause reputational harm. The statement confirmed that the matter has been referred to law enforcement authorities, who have commenced action.

Arrests Made

Three individuals directly linked to the creation and dissemination of the defamatory content have been arrested:

  • Mr. John Surpruchi Nwanorue (@problemchimky)

Investigations are ongoing and expected to lead to further arrests and prosecutions of all persons involved in originating, amplifying, or sustaining the defamatory campaign.

Cease and Desist Order

UBA Group issued a formal notice requiring all individuals, platforms, and entities involved in the publication or dissemination of the false content to immediately cease and desist. They are required to:

  • Remove the offending publication from all platforms immediately
  • Refrain from any further publication or amplification of similar false content
  • Preserve all records, including digital footprints, communications, and metadata relating to the creation and dissemination of the publication, pending further legal action

Failure to comply will result in legal proceedings, including claims for defamation, injunctive relief, damages, and other remedies under applicable law.

The UBA Group stated it is resolute in protecting the reputation, privacy, and integrity of its brand and Mr. Elumelu, and will pursue all necessary legal avenues — civil and criminal — to ensure all responsible parties are identified and held accountable.
