Uncle Allegedly Sexually Abuses 11-Year-Old Niece in Benue Under Guise of Treatment

A disturbing case of alleged sexual abuse has emerged from Benue State, where an 11-year-old girl was reportedly assaulted by her uncle, who deceitfully presented the acts as a medical treatment. The incident occurred in Vandeikya Local Government Area, highlighting severe child protection failures.

Details of the Alleged Abuse

The victim, identified as Saamayol Happy Agber, an indigene of Mbayongo Council Ward in Vandeikya, was placed in the care of her uncle, Mr. Terlumum Agbo, a local herbal practitioner. According to accounts shared online by Facebook user Hon Praise Atsagye, the abuse began after Saamayol was moved out of the main house.

Mr. Agbo cited her struggle with bedwetting as a reason to isolate her, instructing her to sleep alone in his treatment hut. During this period, he allegedly subjected her to repeated sexual abuse, falsely claiming that these acts were necessary "treatment" to stop her bedwetting. Saamayol recounted that her uncle forced himself on her on two separate occasions, leading to immediate and severe physical consequences.

Health Crisis and Discovery

Shortly after the alleged assaults, Saamayol began experiencing severe physical pain and a persistent, abnormal discharge from her private parts. The gravity of the situation came to light when her health deteriorated significantly. On March 14, 2026, she was brought to Makurdi appearing visibly ill and suffering from unexplained trauma.

Initially, her uncle’s wife suspected a routine infection, but a thorough medical examination and Saamayol’s own brave testimony revealed the horrifying reality of the sexual assault. She is now experiencing constant discharge and excruciating pain, underscoring the physical and emotional toll of the abuse.

Medical Response and Current Status

Saamayol has been taken to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) in Makurdi for proper examination and treatment. This case raises urgent questions about child safety and the exploitation of vulnerable minors by trusted caregivers. Authorities are urged to investigate promptly to ensure justice for the victim and prevent similar incidents in the community.

The alleged abuse not only violates the child’s rights but also exploits cultural trust in traditional healing practices, calling for increased awareness and protective measures for children in such settings.
