The sister of a 500-level Law student at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC), who died after falling from an unfinished building, has alleged that her brother may have been murdered, not merely a victim of an accident.

Onyeabo Donald Chimezie, 22, sustained fatal injuries on April 13, 2026, when he fell from an unfinished building near the office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) and landed on exposed iron rods. He was rushed to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) but passed away on June 29, after battling for his life for over two months.
His sister, Cynthia Onyeabo, confirmed the tragic development in a Facebook post on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, revealing that Donald would have turned 22 the day after his death and was due to graduate from the Faculty of Law.
Allegations of Foul Play
In her emotional post, Cynthia expressed that she had initially dismissed any thought of murder, clinging to the belief that her brother's fall was an accident. However, she now has reason to suspect that someone may have pushed or thrown him from the building.
“I have been in denial for the past few weeks. Perhaps, in some ways, I still am,” she wrote. “But now, I have reason to believe that my brother may have been pushed or thrown.”
She described her brother as a reserved and quiet person, a loner who kept to himself, and insisted that he went to school to study, having spent nearly five years at the institution.
Plea for Justice
Cynthia vowed to seek justice and answers, stating that she would not stop praying for the truth to come to light. “My brother deserves justice. And I deserve to know what truly happened to him,” she added.
The University of Nigeria has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident or the allegations. Meanwhile, students and social media users have expressed shock and sympathy, calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Donald's death.
