Popular social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as Verydarkman or VDM, has publicly taken responsibility for the arrest of fellow activist Harrison Gwamnishu. The detention is connected to a swirling controversy over funds meant for the release of abducted victims in Edo State.
VDM's Confession and the Chain of Events
In a candid Facebook video posted on Friday, December 5, 2025, VDM confirmed that Harrison Gwamnishu was taken into police custody in Benin, Edo State, on Thursday night. He stated unequivocally that he was the one who placed the call to law enforcement after receiving troubling information about an incident involving Gwamnishu in Auchi.
"So, Harrison Gwamnishu is in the police custody in Benin, Edo state. He was arrested yesterday night. In all honesty, I initiated the call that led to his arrest. I did," VDM declared in the video.
Allegations of Misused Funds and a Viral Video
The drama stems from viral allegations accusing Harrison Gwamnishu of diverting money collected for the freedom of kidnapped individuals in Edo State. VDM expressed deep disappointment upon gathering initial details and had advised associates not to discuss the matter online.
However, the situation escalated when a video surfaced on social media. VDM confronted those who shared it, with one person claiming they posted it to clear their name after being implicated. The social media critic also slammed a response video from Gwamnishu, labeling it as "gaslighting" and an emotional manipulation tactic despite knowing the case facts.
Evidence and the Path Forward
VDM provided further claims, stating that police had instructed people at the scene not to record, but one individual still captured footage of Gwamnishu returning money linked to the case. He added that Gwamnishu's vehicle is currently held at a police station in Edo State.
Denying any motives of jealousy, VDM insisted his intervention was solely to preserve the truth. He expressed hope that upon his release, Gwamnishu would publicly confess to what transpired in Auchi. He issued a warning, however, that if this does not happen, he may be compelled to reveal more information.
