Video shows arrested terrorists in Oyo school rescue operation

A fresh video has surfaced showing some of the suspected terrorists arrested during the operation that rescued abducted Oyo schoolchildren and teachers after over 50 days in captivity. The footage, which emerged on Saturday, captures members of the tactical team deployed by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) carrying out parts of the operation.

Rescue operation details

The victims were abducted from Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State and regained their freedom on Friday after spending more than 50 days in captivity. The Presidency confirmed that eight suspects were arrested, while several others were neutralised during the operation. The Department of State Services (DSS) is currently holding those arrested for further investigation.

Presidency confirms Ansaru involvement

President Bola Tinubu identified the Ansaru terrorist group as responsible for the abduction. In a personally signed statement, he expressed gratitude over the safe return of the victims, stating, "Nigeria has a reason to give thanks." Tinubu emphasised that no ransom or prisoner swaps were granted to secure the rescue. He praised the security agencies involved, saying they showed courage, discipline and professionalism throughout the operation.

Social media reactions

The video has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians commending the security forces while hoping the arrested suspects will be prosecuted and that similar rescue operations can be carried out successfully in future kidnapping cases. Special forces deployed by ONSA mounted a 30-day quiet offensive to isolate the abductors before making their move.
