Viral Video Shows Police Executing Bound Suspect in Delta

A disturbing viral video depicting armed men, believed to be police officers, executing a bound suspect in broad daylight in Delta State has ignited widespread outrage on social media across Nigeria.

Details of the Incident

The footage, lasting 90 seconds, was posted on X by user #Dee_9889 on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. It shows men dressed in civilian attire operating beside a vehicle clearly marked “Nigeria Police Force, Effurun Area Command.” The suspect lies on the ground with his hands and legs tied, pleading for his life.

In the clip, the suspect begs, “Officers, abeg. I’ll tell you everything. It was my friend who deceived me. He’s at Sapele. I’ll take you to him.” One of the armed men shoots him in the leg. Despite the suspect’s continued pleas and offers to lead them to his friend, the same man fires a second shot to the head, killing him in full view of onlookers. Two other men then load the body into the police van before driving away.

Public Reaction

The video has triggered a wave of condemnation. Many Nigerians have called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the officers involved. The incident has renewed discussions about police brutality in Nigeria, which has been a persistent issue.

Broader Context of Police Brutality

Activists have long lamented rising cases of police brutality across the country. The problem came to the forefront in October 2020 during nationwide #EndSARS protests, which were eventually hijacked by thugs. A recent photo exhibition highlighted incidents of police brutality nationwide.

The Delta State incident underscores the urgent need for accountability and reform within the Nigeria Police Force.
