Halima Aminu Musa, a 20-year-old woman from Anguwan community in Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa State, has alleged that her boyfriend, Adamu Isa, and his friend Ishaku placed a N50,000 bet on her loyalty, leading to a violent assault that left her hospitalized. The incident occurred on June 20, 2026, according to Halima's account.
How the Bet Unfolded
Halima explained that the trouble began when Adamu challenged his friend Ishaku, claiming he could convince Halima to be unfaithful. Ishaku allegedly contacted Halima, saying Adamu had sent him to pick her up. Trusting him as her boyfriend's close friend, she agreed. "I was sitting on my own when Ishaku called me to inform me that he would be coming to pick me up with his motorcycle. He said my boyfriend sent him to take me somewhere and that Adamu would meet us there," Halima said.
Ishaku took her to a hotel where she and Adamu often spent time. He asked her to wait in a room, assuring her Adamu would arrive shortly. After some time, Ishaku gave her a drink, after which she lost consciousness. "When I woke up, I saw Adamu tapping me. I was shocked to see him there. When I asked what happened, he slapped me and started hitting me," she alleged.
Assault and Aftermath
Halima's cries attracted hotel security, who intervened and contacted her sister. She was later taken to the hospital for treatment. Adamu accused her of cheating without listening to her explanation. "He did not ask me what happened. He started calling me a prostitute and said I cheated on him with his friend, which I am innocent of," she said.
Ishaku later visited her home and apologized, explaining the N50,000 bet. "He told me they had a bet of N50,000 and that he told Adamu he could get me, but I did not expect it would lead to this. The agreement was about money, not violence," she said. Adamu has not contacted her since the incident, and she demands he cover her medical expenses.
Warning to Young Women
Halima advised young women to be cautious about whom they trust and to recognize warning signs in relationships. "I have learnt my lesson. Young ladies should be careful when choosing who they trust and should understand the kind of person they are in a relationship with," she said. The case has raised concerns in the community about loyalty tests and violence against women.
