Woman Apprehended in Ogun for Alleged Minibus Theft and Repainting Scheme
Police authorities in Ogun State have made a significant arrest, detaining a 22-year-old woman, Afeez Khadijat, in connection with the alleged theft and repainting of a minibus, commonly referred to as a 'korope'. The incident unfolded along Ikhasi Road in Kajola, Omu-Ijebu, where the suspect was taken into custody on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m.
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest
According to the command's spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, detectives from the Omu-Ijebu Division acted promptly on a tip-off. The information indicated that Khadijat and three other men, suspected to be part of a criminal gang, were observed repainting the vehicle in a secluded bush area along the road. Upon storming the location, law enforcement officers successfully apprehended the female suspect, while her male accomplices managed to flee the scene.
Evidence and Vehicle Recovery
Babaseyi detailed that the minibus, which originally bore a yellow color, had been repainted in white and blue in an apparent attempt to disguise its identity. The vehicle, registered in Lagos State, was recovered and secured at the police station. A thorough search of the scene yielded several items of evidence, including:
- Three mobile phones
- A power bank
- A paint can
- Sandpaper
- A Type-C charging cord
These items are believed to have been used by the suspects during the repainting operation.
Preliminary Investigations and Criminal Links
Preliminary investigations suggest that the minibus was allegedly involved in criminal activities within Lagos State. This prompted the suspects to repaint the vehicle as a means to conceal its identity and avoid detection by authorities. Babaseyi emphasized that efforts are actively underway to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects. The case is currently under investigation and is set to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further scrutiny and prosecution.
Police Commendation and Public Appeal
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the operatives for their swift response and professionalism in handling the situation. He assured the public that all fleeing accomplices would be captured and brought to justice. Ojajuni also urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines, highlighting the importance of community cooperation in combating crime.
