The shooting occurred on the evening of Sunday, January 25, 2026, in Chris Hani village, located in the Temba area. According to police reports, the young child was playing outdoors with other children when the fatal shot was fired.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Herman Moremi provided a harrowing account of the incident. "It is alleged that the child was playing outside with other children when a neighbor discharged her licensed firearm. It is suggested that the woman was testing her 9mm Glock inside the yard and shot the child," he stated.
The bullet struck Obakeng Minyuku in the right armpit. He was immediately rushed to the Temba clinic, where medical personnel unfortunately certified him dead upon arrival.
Police Response and Arrest
Law enforcement authorities acted swiftly following the tragedy. Police arrested a 38-year-old woman in connection with the incident. She faces serious charges including:
