A Nigerian woman has shared a startling account of an incident at a burial that she says prompted her to stop attending funerals altogether. Orie Azu Udu claimed that while accompanying a friend to her aunt's burial, she saw the deceased woman herself at the ceremony, despite her body still being at the morgue.
Shocking Scene at a Village Burial
In a Facebook post, Udu recounted how she travelled with her friend to the friend's father's village for the burial of her paternal aunt. She described the scene as beyond comprehension: "On the day of the burial, I saw wetin I no understand. The late aunt and her friends who were still at the morgue were in attendance."
According to Udu, the deceased woman and her companions, whose bodies were still in the mortuary, actively participated in the burial proceedings. They reportedly served food from the buffet, joined the mourners in viewing the grave, and even embraced the attendees. Udu said she was so disturbed that she could not eat or drink water throughout the event.
Possession During the Burial Service
The most alarming moment came during the pastor's sermon. Udu claimed that after the deceased woman hugged her friends, she moved into a lady who was crying near the grave. "That was the last time I attended a burial. People get possessed on burial events," Udu wrote.
She added that she asked her friend whether her aunt had a lookalike, to which the friend replied "mope" (no). Udu said she went mute, unable to process what she had witnessed.
Another User Shares Similar Experience
The post sparked debate among Facebook users about its authenticity. One user, Omekannaya Oyinna, said she was inclined to believe Udu's story because of an incident at her own father's funeral. Oyinna said her father died of a mental illness, and at his funeral, someone took a microphone and declared that his lack of belief in God had caused his illness. She said that woman subsequently developed a mental illness and is still suffering from it to this day.
The viral story has left many Nigerians questioning the spiritual dimensions of burial ceremonies, with some sharing their own unsettling experiences in the comments.
