Ogechukwu Mary Eze, a Nigerian mother of two, has shared a detailed account of taking pre-wedding photos with her ex-husband just ten days after he allegedly poured hot tea on her face, tore her clothing, and seized her phone. The incident, which she recounted in a Facebook post on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, highlights what she describes as the curse of being a 'pick me'—a slang term for a woman who desperately seeks male validation.
Alleged Assault Over a Misplaced Bike Key
In her post, Eze wrote: “Oct 19, 2021. He poured me hot tea on my face because I couldn't find his bike key that he misplaced, tore my cloth on my body and seized my phone so I can't call anybody.” She said she had to go to the police to report the case before he returned her phone. She also mentioned that she burnt his church coat and took 70,000 naira from his shop boy, intending to use it as transport to go back to her father's house. She fled to her cousin's place and bought new clothes on the way.
Pre-Wedding Photos Just 10 Days Later
Eze continued: “Oct 29, 2021; that's 10 days later we went to take this pre wedding pictures and that 70k I took was remaining 50k then. He punished me by asking me to use the money and buy ashebi clothes and the clothes I will wear on traditional marriage day; he didn't care if it was enough or not, that was my punishment.” She explained that she had to task her 12 ashoebi girls to pay 3,500 naira each for materials, and she added money from those who paid early to cover her transport to Lagos to buy the ashoebi clothes.

In her post, Eze remarked: “Make una gather all the mad people in Lagos make Dem pour me their early morning spit. Being a Pick me is a curse. Time stamp: 1:54am, I can't sleep!!” Her story, shared on the Linda Ikeji blog, has drawn attention to the pressures women may face in relationships and the lengths some go to in order to maintain appearances. The post serves as a personal reflection on her past decisions and their emotional toll.
