Yobe Police Issue High Alert Over Suspected Criminals in Disguise
The Yobe State Police Command has issued an urgent security alert concerning the covert activities of suspected criminals operating in Damaturu and various other communities across the state. Authorities have raised alarms over individuals who are disguising themselves as petty traders and Internet service providers, using wheelbarrows to move between neighborhoods while potentially planning illicit activities.
Disguises and Modus Operandi Detailed by Police
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Dungus Abdulkarim, the spokesperson for the Command, intelligence reports indicate that these criminal elements may attempt to blend in by posing as sellers of common items such as perfumes, known locally as "Mai Tolare," or nail cutters. They might also be seen pushing hand trucks or even begging as they traverse from ward to ward, visiting houses, offices, markets, and other public spaces. Abdulkarim emphasized that these disguises could serve as a cover for surveying environments and identifying vulnerable locations for attacks and household burglaries in targeted areas.
Residents are advised to exercise extreme caution when encountering unfamiliar persons loitering around residential zones, places of worship, markets, public institutions, social gatherings, and other crowded venues throughout Yobe State. Reports suggest that some of these individuals may use tricycles for transportation and often appear neat and decently dressed to avoid arousing suspicion from the public.
Call for Public Vigilance and Cooperation
Abdulkarim urged the public not to panic but to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious persons, unusual movements, or activities within their neighborhoods to the nearest police station or other security agencies. He highlighted the importance of community involvement, encouraging leaders from market associations, transport unions, and religious groups to sensitize their members and cooperate with security forces. Providing timely and credible information is crucial in preventing potential security threats and maintaining safety.
Police Commissioner Emmanuel Ado reassured residents of the Command's unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property. He called on everyone to support security agencies in their efforts to uphold peace and security across Yobe State, emphasizing that collective vigilance is key to thwarting criminal plans and ensuring community well-being.
