Yobe Police Arrest Man for Raping 5-Year-Old, Nab Vandals

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Ahmed Abdullahi, for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl in Damaturu. The command also arrested three suspected vandals for allegedly dismantling and stealing power transformer feeder cables in Dapchi, Bursari Local Government Area.

Arrest of the Rape Suspect

According to the command's spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) arrested Abdullahi on June 29, 2026, at about 5:40 p.m. in the Dikumari area of Damaturu. The suspect allegedly raped a five-year-old minor. “The suspect voluntarily confessed to the alleged offence, while investigation is ongoing,” Abdulkarim stated.

Arrest of Power Cable Vandals

In a separate operation on the same day, operatives of the Dapchi Divisional Headquarters responded to a distress call about vandalization of power supply cables. They arrested three suspects: Danladi Saleh, 30, and Usman Ibrahim, 33, both of Dapchi, and Mohammed Ali, 23, of Geidam Local Government Area.

The suspects were found in possession of large quantities of vandalized power cables cut into pieces, suspected to have been prepared for sale. “Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were responsible for dismantling feeder cables, which caused the collapse of some poles. Investigation is ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate and recover more exhibits,” the PPRO stated.

The vandalism led to the collapse of some poles, disrupting power supply in the area. Police are continuing investigations to apprehend other members of the syndicate and recover more exhibits. The rape suspect remains in custody as investigations proceed.
