Youth Leader Killed in Fresh Attack on Benue Community

A youth leader, Sunday Ogoh, was killed after gunmen launched a fresh attack on Ondo community in Ugboju district of Otukpo Local Government Area in Benue State. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, July 14, 2026, barely 48 hours after gunmen killed 18 people in the Otukpo-Nobi community, another community in Otukpo LGA.

Residents reported that the gunmen invaded the community around 5 a.m. and started shooting sporadically, killing one person and fatally injuring another. A resident who preferred anonymity said many have fled their homes following the incident.

Local Government Chairman Confirms Attack

Chairman of Otukpo LGA, Maxwell Ogiri, confirmed the incident, stating that the attack was swiftly repelled by combined security operatives, but not before one indigene lost his life. He added that security personnel have since launched a manhunt for the attackers.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Udeme Edet, also confirmed the incident, saying security operatives have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators. The attack comes amid rising insecurity in Benue State, with communities facing repeated assaults from armed groups.
