In a proactive move to protect public infrastructure, vigilant youths in Kufana community, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have apprehended two individuals suspected of vandalizing a transformer. The suspects, identified as Denis Reuben from Kurmin Ido and Haruna Ado from Kurmin Kwari, were caught in the early hours of Tuesday, June 16, 2026, while allegedly attempting to steal transformer coils.
Arrest and Handover
The arrest was carried out by a patrol team led by Mr. Samaila Akawu, alongside the community Youth Leader, Mr. Chris Lingo, and other alert youths. Following the apprehension, the suspects were handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and potential prosecution.
Council Chairman Commends Youths
Reacting to the incident, the Executive Chairman of Kajuru Local Government Council, Hon. Dauda Madaki, praised the vigilance and bravery of the youths. He described their swift action as commendable and a model for others to emulate. According to the chairman, protecting critical public assets, especially electricity infrastructure, is a collective duty that requires active community participation.
Madaki expressed concern over the recurring vandalism of electrical installations across Kajuru LGA, despite the council's significant investments in providing, rehabilitating, and maintaining electricity facilities for residents. He urged communities to remain vigilant and continue collaborating with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
Call for Community Action
The council chairman emphasized that acts of vandalism and theft of public infrastructure hinder community development and will not be tolerated. He stated that the arrest should serve as a deterrent to individuals involved in destroying or stealing electricity infrastructure. Madaki assured residents that the council would continue to support community-driven security initiatives aimed at protecting public assets and promoting sustainable development throughout Kajuru Local Government Area.
