Zambian woman killed in confrontation with husband's lover

A 26-year-old woman has died after she was allegedly beaten to death by her husband’s side chick in Kitwe, Zambia. The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, when the deceased, Vainess Kanyama, of Kapoto Township, went to confront the suspect, Christin Ntundwe, over an alleged affair with her husband. The mother of three was laid to rest on Friday, August 21. The suspect is currently on the run.

Victim Found Unconscious Near Market

The victim’s uncle, Derrick Bwalya, who confirmed the incident in an interview, said on the fateful day, he received a call that his niece was found lying unconscious near the market. Mr Bwalya said he rushed to the scene and found a lot of people surrounding his niece.

“I found my niece bleeding from the nose and she was unresponsive and when I attempted to take her to the hospital, I was told that she had already died,” he said.

Family Reports Matter to Police

Mr Bwalya said the matter was reported to the police. He said the victim had been living with her husband in the same area when she decided to confront the suspect, who also lives in Kapoto. Mr Bwalya said one of the daughters of the victim who was with her rushed home and informed the relatives after seeing her mother unconscious.

The family put the victim to rest on Friday following a post-mortem, which has revealed that she died due to blood clots on both sides of the brain.

Family Demands Justice

Mr Bwalya said the family wants justice to be served in the matter as the suspect had no right to take away his niece’s life. He said the victim’s husband should also cooperate and help the police in finding the suspect as he has also contributed to the situation.

Mr Bwalya said the victim leaves behind three children, with the youngest aged five years. Police are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
