A major fire outbreak on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, caused extensive damage in the Ofiki area of Saki, Oyo State, leaving a trail of destruction.

Swift Response from Fire Services

The Oyo State Fire Services Agency (OYSFA) confirmed it received an urgent distress call about the incident. The alert came from Mufutau Badmus, who serves as the Saki Branch Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).

Upon receiving the call, firefighting personnel, led by Mr. Kolade Taiwo, were immediately deployed to the scene to combat the blaze.

Scene of Devastation

When the fire service team arrived, they were met with a fierce inferno. The fire had already consumed several key assets:

  • The RSK Adebowale Multipurpose Filling Station.
  • A DAF tanker truck fully loaded with 50,000 litres of petrol.
  • Three fuel dispense pumps at the station.
  • One Bajaj motorcycle.

Containment and Commendations

The agency's personnel worked diligently and managed to completely extinguish the fire. Their efforts successfully prevented the flames from spreading to other nearby properties, averting a potentially larger disaster.

Mr Moroof Akinwande, the Chairman of OYSFA, praised the Ofiki Division of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for their role. He commended their presence and the security they provided during the critical firefighting operation.

In the aftermath, Akinwande issued a crucial advisory. He urged all filling station owners across Oyo State to prioritise fire safety guidelines. This incident underscores the ever-present risk at petroleum facilities and the importance of strict adherence to safety protocols to prevent future tragedies.
