Troops Neutralise 4 Kidnappers, Recover Weapons in Plateau Raid
Army Neutralises Kidnappers in Plateau, Recovers Weapons

In a decisive security operation, troops from the Nigerian Army's 3 Division have successfully raided a kidnappers' den in Plateau State, leading to the neutralisation of suspects and the recovery of a cache of weapons.

Operation Based on Credible Intelligence

The raid was conducted by personnel serving under the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP). It was launched on January 6, 2026, following actionable intelligence reports about criminal activities centred around Lantom village in the Kadarko District of Wase Local Government Area.

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the soldiers stormed the identified hideout. During the initial assault, four suspected criminals were apprehended at the location. A search of the premises yielded several items, including:

  • One locally fabricated rifle
  • One axe
  • One machete

Suspects' Confession and Fatal Escape Attempt

Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested individuals were allegedly responsible for multiple incidents of kidnapping and armed robbery within Kadarko District and surrounding communities. It was also disclosed that two other members of the criminal gang managed to flee during the raid, taking with them an AK-47 rifle belonging to the group.

In a significant development, the suspects in custody cooperated during interrogation. They volunteered information regarding the location of a separate arms cache and offered to guide the troops to this secondary hideout situated on the outskirts of Kadarko for recovery.

However, the situation turned violent as the suspects led the military team to the location. Reports indicate that the individuals made desperate attempts to disarm one of their guards in a bid to escape. The troops responded decisively to the threat.

"The troops acted decisively and neutralised the kidnappers in the process," a military source confirmed. All items recovered from the operation remain in the custody of the security forces.

Ongoing Manhunt for Fleeing Criminals

The military has confirmed that follow-up operations are actively ongoing. The primary objectives are to apprehend the two fleeing gang members and to recover the AK-47 rifle in their possession. This operation underscores the continued efforts of security agencies to dismantle kidnapping networks and restore peace in troubled regions.

The successful raid in Wase LGA highlights the critical role of community intelligence in combating insecurity and serves as a warning to criminal elements operating within Plateau State and beyond.
