Military Operation Frees Kidnapped Teenagers

The Nigerian Army has successfully rescued twelve teenage girls who were abducted by Boko Haram and Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Borno State. The victims, aged between 15 and 20 years, were kidnapped on November 23, 2025 while harvesting crops on their family farmlands in Mussa District of Askira/Uba Local Council.

Swift Intelligence-Led Rescue Mission

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) conducted a rapid, intelligence-driven operation that led to the girls' freedom on Saturday, November 29, 2025. The military action took place in the southern Borno axis, where security forces have been intensifying operations against terrorist remnants.

According to Lt-Col Appolonia Anele, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the rescued girls have been evacuated to a secure military facility. She confirmed that the victims are receiving comprehensive medical care, psychological support, and debriefing to help them recover from their traumatic experience.

The successful rescue operation has brought immense relief to the local community, which had been living in fear since the abduction occurred. The military high command praised the determination of its troops and acknowledged the crucial support from security stakeholders and local informants.

Troops continue to pursue ISWAP remnants across southern Borno to prevent further attacks and protect civilians. The army has called on communities to maintain their support for ongoing operations by providing credible and timely information, emphasizing that collaborative efforts are essential for defeating terrorism and ensuring lasting security.

Army Chief Tasks Newly Promoted Officers

In related developments, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen Waidi Shaibu, has tasked newly promoted senior officers to intensify their professional drive. The Army Council had on Thursday, November 27 approved the promotion of senior officers, including 28 Brigadier-Generals to the rank of Major General and 77 Colonels to the rank of Brigadier General.

The COAS directed the officers to demonstrate exemplary leadership and cultivate innovative solutions capable of delivering swift responses to Nigeria's evolving security threats. He emphasized that their loyalty to the Constitution must remain absolute and unwavering, while upholding their sacred oath to defend Nigeria's territorial integrity.
