In a swift operation, the Benue State Police Command successfully thwarted a kidnapping and rescued a victim unharmed in the early hours of Christmas Day.

Dramatic Rescue on Christmas Morning

The incident occurred at about 3:00 am on Thursday, December 25, 2025, along the Tiortu area of the state. The victim, Akume Geoffrey, was travelling from Gboko to Makurdi when his journey was violently interrupted.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, armed men suspected to be kidnappers intercepted Geoffrey. They forcefully abducted him and attempted to drag him into a nearby forest.

Swift Police Action Saves the Day

Police operatives, however, were already on high alert. Upon receiving a distress call, they swiftly mobilised and launched intensive patrols alongside a coordinated search of the area.

“On sighting the police patrol team and hearing sirens, the suspects abandoned the victim and fled into the forest,” stated DSP Edet.

The rescued victim was taken to Abinse Police Station, where he was debriefed by the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Ifeanyi Emenari. Geoffrey was later reunited with his relieved family.

Command Reassures Public, Intensifies Patrols

CP Ifeanyi Emenari commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism which led to the successful rescue. He reassured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, especially during the festive season.

The Commissioner revealed that security measures have been ramped up across strategic locations in the state. These measures include:

  • Increased patrols
  • Stop-and-search operations
  • Intelligence-led policing

Emenari urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies. Meanwhile, police efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
