The Anambra State Police Command has made a tragic discovery in the ongoing investigation into the kidnapping of three Cameroonian women, confirming the recovery of two bodies from the Omambala River in Anambra West Local Government Area.

Intensive Search Operation Leads to Grim Discovery

Following an intensive search operation conducted on Friday, November 28, police operatives working alongside professional divers and local volunteers recovered two decomposed female bodies from the river. The coordinated effort involved officers attached to the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu.

Police Public Relations Officer SP Ikenga Tochukwu confirmed the development in a statement issued on Saturday, November 29, noting that the remains have been deposited in a mortuary for further examination and necessary investigative procedures.

Families Identify Victims Amidst Grief

In a heartbreaking turn of events, family members of the kidnapped victims were invited to make formal identification of the recovered bodies. They confirmed the remains as those of Mrs Bognou Alice and Miss Sandra, two of the three Cameroonian women allegedly abducted in the state.

The police spokesman revealed that the family positively identified the bodies, with one victim being the wife and the other the niece of the family representative who attended the identification process.

Police Investigation Progresses with Arrests

The police command has made significant progress in the investigation, arresting two suspects identified as Nonso Augustine Akpeh, 37, and Kingsley Akpeh, 44. Both suspects are currently assisting police with the investigation.

However, authorities continue to hunt for a third suspect, Uchenna Nicholas Mmadu, who remains at large. The Commissioner of Police has directed all units involved to strengthen operational activities aimed at apprehending the fleeing suspect.
