A Chinese expatriate, who was abducted during a deadly assault on security personnel in Edo State, has finally been freed after nearly three months in captivity.
Deadly Ambush and Abduction
The incident traces back to September 5, when gunmen launched a brazen attack on a team of operatives from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The team was specifically assigned to provide protection for Chinese workers at the BUA Cement Plant in Okpella, Edo State. The assault was devastating, resulting in the murder of eight NSCDC personnel.
Amid the chaos and violence, the expatriate, identified as Mr. Wang, was seized by the assailants and taken away. This event sent shockwaves through the local community and highlighted the persistent security challenges in the region.
Release After 88 Days in Captivity
According to reports from security analyst Zagazola Makama, the kidnapped Chinese national regained his freedom on December 2. His release occurred around 11:30 p.m. in Kabba, located in Kogi State, which is a considerable distance from the initial scene of the crime.
