Gunmen Attack Oyo School, Abduct Principal and Students

Gunmen have invaded a community in Oyo State, abducting a school principal and an unspecified number of students. The incident occurred at Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, in Oriire Local Government Area on Friday morning, May 15, 2026.

Attack Details

The attackers shot a teacher during the raid and forcibly took the principal, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, along with several students. The police spokesperson for the State Police Command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the event in a statement.

According to Olayinka, a resident reported that the gunmen also shot a teacher, though the severity of the injury remains unconfirmed. The assailants fled the scene using the principal's vehicle and escaped into a forest reserve bordering the community.

Police Response

The police command noted that the nearest police station is located some distance away, which delayed the immediate response. However, the Commissioner of Police has deployed officers to the area for assessment and rescue operations.
