In a brazen afternoon assault, armed men suspected to be bandits have kidnapped five workers at a construction site in Kwara State, throwing the local community into fear.

Details of the Attack

The incident occurred on Monday, December 15, 2025, along the Sabaja/Owa-Onire Road. According to the site manager, Alhaji Suleiman Abdullah Olanrewaju, the gunmen struck at approximately 11:40 a.m. while the workers were carrying out their duties. The attackers overwhelmed the site and abducted the five men before fleeing into the surrounding area.

The manager officially reported the abduction to security agencies at about 4:30 p.m. the same day. The victims have been identified as Engr. Ademola Afolabi, Engr. Umar Lade, labourers Fatai and Akin, and a driver named Yusuf.

Security Response and Rescue Efforts

Upon receiving the report, a swift multi-agency response was launched. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Oreke mobilized police operatives who immediately joined forces with military personnel and local vigilante groups.

A combined team is currently conducting an extensive search operation, combing through nearby bushes in a determined effort to locate and rescue the kidnapped workers and apprehend the perpetrators. The manager confirmed he had alerted the military before informing the police.
