Gunmen kidnapped three 100-level students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) from their off-campus lodge in the Bukan Kwato area of Lafia on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at about 8:45 p.m. The incident occurred at Sure Leaders Lodge, according to a student who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons.
Police Yet to Issue Official Statement
As of the time of this report, the Nasarawa State Police Command had not released any official statement regarding the abduction. The lack of immediate police comment left students and residents in a state of uncertainty.
Students’ Union Government Confirms Incident
The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the university confirmed the kidnapping in a public safety notice issued on Sunday. The notice stated that the union had begun engaging traditional authorities and university management over the incident. The statement, signed by SUG President Jabir Ibrahim and Secretary-General Ibrahim Aliyu, said: “Students’ Union leadership has met with the District Head and relevant authorities and is collaborating with the University Management on security measures.”
Safety Advisory for Students
The union urged all students to remain calm while security efforts continue. “Your safety is our top priority. Remain calm, stay vigilant, avoid unnecessary movements, especially at odd hours, and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities or the Students’ Union,” the statement added. The SUG emphasized that they are working closely with the university administration and local traditional leaders to ensure the safe return of the abducted students and to strengthen campus security.
