Kogi State Launches Major Security Operation Following Church Abduction
The Kogi State government has confirmed the activation of extensive security measures following a disturbing attack on the Cherubim and Seraphim church in Ejiba, located within Yagba West Local Government Area. The incident occurred during Sunday service when armed bandits stormed the worship center and abducted multiple congregants.
According to official reports, the pastor of the church, his wife, and an unconfirmed number of worshippers were taken captive during the brazen assault that has sent shockwaves through the community.
Security Forces Mobilize Across Kogi
Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, has confirmed that the state's comprehensive security network has been fully deployed in response to the crisis. He emphasized that both conventional security agencies and local security groups are collaborating closely to track down the perpetrators and secure the safe return of all victims.
"Our security architecture, comprising conventional security agencies and local security networks, is currently executing coordinated operations to address this situation," Commissioner Fanwo stated.
The Commissioner further revealed that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is personally overseeing the rescue operations, demonstrating the administration's commitment to resolving the crisis. Regular updates will be provided to media outlets as the mission progresses.
Government Urges Public Vigilance
In the wake of the attack, the Kogi State government has issued urgent appeals to residents to maintain heightened security awareness. Commissioner Fanwo emphasized the critical role citizens play in supporting security efforts.
"We strongly urge all citizens to remain security-conscious and immediately report any suspicious movements or unfamiliar faces to security agencies," he advised. "The principle of 'see something, say something' has never been more important."
The government has also recommended that worship centers situated in remote or vulnerable locations reconsider holding services in areas identified as crime-prone until security conditions show significant improvement.
Local authorities in Yagba West Local Government Council are working in close coordination with security agencies to ensure the safe recovery of all kidnapped individuals. Official statements confirm that the perpetrators will face the full force of the law, with the state government committed to using all available resources to secure the freedom of every abducted citizen.
