Ondo Monarch Killed in Foiled Kidnap Attempt by Armed Gunmen
Suspected gunmen have killed the traditional ruler of Ahungha Village, located in the Agamo Area of Akure North Local Government in Ondo State. The victim, Oba Kehinde Jacob Faledun, was attacked in his palace on Wednesday, February 18, in what authorities describe as a failed kidnapping attempt.
Details of the Attack
According to a family source, approximately ten armed men invaded the palace around 7:10 PM. The assailants attempted to abduct the monarch, but he resisted fiercely. During the struggle, the gunmen fired multiple shots at him, though initial reports indicate the bullets did not penetrate his body.
The attackers then forcibly removed Oba Faledun from his palace and struck him on the head with a hard object. His lifeless body was discovered later by family members after the gunmen had fled the scene. The monarch's wife confirmed the incident, stating that the assailants entered through the Itaogbolu axis and were speaking the Hausa language. She tragically witnessed the event, saying, "They killed my husband in my presence."
Police Response and Investigation
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the killing. DSP Jimoh Abayomi, the command's spokesperson, reported that information was received at the division around 7:50 PM from High Chief Ajewole Clement of New Town, Itaogbolu. The report detailed that six armed men stormed the monarch's residence, forcibly took him from his compound, and subsequently fled.
Abayomi added, "The victim was later found a few meters away with gunshot wounds. He was confirmed dead at the scene." Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer and command tactical teams mobilized officers in collaboration with local security outfits, including Atuluse Security, local hunters, and Amotekun operatives. They combed adjoining bushes and surrounding areas in an effort to apprehend the perpetrators.
Ongoing efforts include:

- A commitment from the Police Command to leave no stone unturned in bringing those responsible for this heinous act to justice.
- An appeal to the public for credible and actionable information, urging reports to the nearest police station or contact with the command.
