Police Make Grim Discovery in Anambra River
The Anambra State Police Command has made a tragic discovery in its investigation into the kidnapping of three Cameroonian women. On Saturday, November 29, 2025, authorities announced the recovery of two decomposing female bodies from Omambala River in Anambra West Local Government Area.
According to police statements, the victims are believed to be among the three Cameroonian women who had been missing for some time, with growing concerns they had been abducted. The police had previously launched an investigation that led to the arrest of two suspects: Nonso Augustine Akpeh, 37, and Kingsley Akpeh, 44.
Intensive Search Operation Yields Tragic Results
State Police Public Relations Officer Tochukwu Ikenga provided details of the recovery operation. On the evening of November 28, 2025, operatives from the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu conducted an intensive search along the river.
The police team worked in collaboration with professional river divers and local volunteers during the operation. "During the operation, the team recovered two female decomposed bodies believed to be victims of the kidnapping incident," Ikenga stated.
Family members of the kidnapped victims were immediately contacted and positively identified the recovered bodies as Mrs. Bognou Alice (wife) and Miss Sandra (niece). Both bodies have been deposited in a mortuary for further examination and necessary investigative procedures.
Police Intensify Manhunt for Fleeing Suspect
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has extended condolences to the bereaved family and friends while ordering intensified search efforts to recover the remaining missing victim.
The Commissioner has directed all units involved to strengthen operational activities aimed at apprehending the third suspect, Uchenna Nicholas Mmadu, who remains at large. Police authorities have vowed to ensure he faces the full weight of the law.
