Former Governor Breaks Silence on Security Crisis
Former Kwara State governor Bukola Saraki has broken his silence regarding the disturbing abduction incident that occurred in Eruku town, labeling the attack as a clear terrorist act that resulted in multiple injuries and kidnappings.
Saraki made his position known through an official statement posted on his Instagram account on November 19, 2025, where he expressed deep concern about the security breach in the typically peaceful community.
Details of the Eruku Incident
The former governor described how the violent attack has shattered the normally tranquil atmosphere of Eruku, a town situated in the southern region of Kwara State. According to Saraki's account, the incident left numerous residents injured while several others were forcibly taken by their captors.
In his emotional statement, Saraki extended his heartfelt sympathy to all affected families and victims, offering prayers for healing and strength during what he characterized as an exceptionally difficult period for the community.
Urgent Call for Government Action
Saraki issued a strong appeal to the Federal Government and security agencies, demanding immediate intervention to secure the safe release of all kidnapped individuals. He emphasized the critical need for enhanced security protocols not only in Eruku but throughout Kwara State.
"I call on the Federal government, particularly the heads of our security agencies to urgently act to ensure that the kidnapped victims of this sad incident regain their freedom and return home safely to their loved ones," Saraki stated in his social media post.
He further elaborated that "I also enjoin the security agencies to put a solid arrangement in place that will secure Eruku town, in particular, and all parts of Kwara State."
Strategic Importance of Kwara State
The former governor highlighted Kwara State's unique geographical position, describing it as a crucial gateway connecting Nigeria's northern and southern regions. This strategic location, he argued, necessitates special security considerations to protect both state and national interests.
"The state is one of the gateways into the country and a link between the southern and northern parts. This makes it deserving of a special security arrangement that will not jeopardise our national interest and internal peace," Saraki explained.
He concluded his message with a spiritual appeal, praying for divine intervention against those he identified as waging war against Nigeria. "May Allah (SWT) heal our land and help us defeat all those waging wars against Nigeria," the former governor wrote.
The Eruku abduction has raised serious concerns about security challenges spreading to previously unaffected regions of Nigeria, prompting calls for more robust security measures in border states like Kwara.
