Details of the Kidnapping Incident
According to the police statement, the incident began on March 1, 2026, when Umar Ibrahim of Ngballang, Numan LGA, reported to the Numan Police Station that his four-year-old son, Ramadan, had gone out to play and failed to return home. The family's initial efforts to locate the child were entirely unsuccessful, leading to growing concerns and a formal police report.
Several days after the disappearance, the complainant received a distressing call from an unknown phone number. The caller informed him that his son had been kidnapped and demanded a ransom of Eight Hundred Thousand Naira (N800,000) for the child's safe release. This demand prompted an immediate and intensive investigation by the police authorities.
Arrest and Confession of the Suspects
Following diligent investigative work by operatives attached to the Numan Division, two suspects were identified and subsequently arrested in connection with the crime. The arrested individuals are Sadiq Ali, aged 19, and Shitu Umar, aged 23, both residents of Lafiya in Lamurde Local Government Area.
During interrogation, the suspects voluntarily confessed to their involvement in the organized crime, providing crucial details that aided the police in their ongoing investigation. The case has now been transferred to the Command's Anti-Kidnapping Unit for discreet and thorough investigation, with further necessary actions to be taken based on the findings.
