Armed men have kidnapped a woman in the Oshin area of Ibadan, Oyo State, sparking concern and a police manhunt. The victim, identified as Folakemi, is a teacher at an international school in the city.
Details of the Abduction
The incident occurred on Tuesday along Adebajo Street in the New Bodija area. According to reports, Folakemi, who resides in Akobo, was in her Toyota RAV4 when her path was blocked by a Toyota Highlander SUV. The Highlander carried three armed men, one of whom was masked.
While some accounts state she was on her way to work, others suggest she was headed to a church programme. The masked gunman forcefully dragged Folakemi from her vehicle into the waiting SUV before the assailants sped off through adjoining streets.
Aftermath and Police Response
The kidnappers left behind another female occupant who was in Folakemi's car at the time. They also took the personal belongings of both women, including their phones. Residents later observed the victim's vehicle abandoned at the scene with the driver's door hanging open, followed by the arrival of a police team.
The Oyo State Police Command, through its spokesperson DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the abduction on Friday. Ayanlade stated that the Command has activated its intelligence resources to ensure the victim's rescue.
Investigation and Public Appeal
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) emphasized that the Command is collaborating with local security stakeholders. An investigation began immediately to identify and apprehend the criminals involved.
DSP Ayanlade reassured the public that the police are taking all necessary measures to resolve the situation. He urged residents to remain calm and to provide any information that could assist the investigation to the nearest police station.
The abduction has heightened security concerns in the area, with authorities calling for vigilance and community cooperation to combat such crimes.
