According to a statement released by Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Apolonia Anele, troops from the 25 Task Force Brigade were conducting a routine patrol to secure communities around Wajiroko in Azir Multe, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State. The soldiers were returning from a successful patrol within the fringes of Sambisa Forest when they came under sudden and heavy fire from insurgents.
The patrol team, led by Commander 25 Brigade Brigadier General M Uba, comprised both regular army troops and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
