Attack Details and Military Response

According to a statement released by Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Apolonia Anele, troops from the 25 Task Force Brigade were conducting a routine patrol to secure communities around Wajiroko in Azir Multe, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State. The soldiers were returning from a successful patrol within the fringes of Sambisa Forest when they came under sudden and heavy fire from insurgents.

The patrol team, led by Commander 25 Brigade Brigadier General M Uba, comprised both regular army troops and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). Despite the ambush, the combined force courageously fought back with superior firepower, forcing the attackers to withdraw in disarray and abandon their mission objectives.

During the intense encounter, two brave soldiers and two heroic CJTF members paid the supreme price while actively serving the nation. The Army high command has commended the troops for their gallantry while expressing condolences to the families and associates of the deceased for their heroic sacrifice.

The Army Headquarters specifically addressed and denied reports circulating in some media outlets that alleged the abduction of the Brigade Commander during the attack. The public has been advised to disregard what the Army has labeled as fake news regarding the incident.

Leadership Recognition and Continued Operations

In the statement, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, saluted the uncommon bravery, resilience and sacrifice of the gallant troops who continue to operate in one of the most dangerous conflict theaters on behalf of the nation. The Army leadership emphasized that the troops' unflinching commitment, even when facing grave danger, serves as a powerful reminder of the daily sacrifices made by service personnel to keep Nigeria safe.

The statement concluded by urging citizens to continue praying for the continuous success of the nation's service men and women as they confront security challenges in various parts of the country.
