President Bola Tinubu is set to announce a salary increment for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, according to the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.). The minister made the disclosure in a statement issued by his media aide, Leah Katung-Babatunde, emphasizing that the move underscores the Federal Government's sustained commitment to improving troop welfare and rewarding their sacrifices to the nation.
Minister Recalls Previous Salary Increase
General Musa recalled that during his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff, military pay was successfully raised from ₦49,000 to ₦100,000. He stressed that active steps are currently underway to secure an even better compensation package for the troops. "I want to state here that a few weeks ago, I mentioned that soldiers are now receiving N100,000. When I was Chief of Defence Staff, soldiers were receiving N49,000. About two years ago, I pushed for an increase to N100,000, and that was achieved. We are, however, making further efforts to increase it again," the minister said.
Government’s Commitment to Troop Welfare
The minister noted that the planned increment is part of a broader initiative to enhance the conditions of service for military personnel. He reiterated the administration's dedication to ensuring that members of the armed forces are adequately compensated for their dedication and bravery in defending the nation's territorial integrity.
