Tragic Ambush Claims Lives of Five Police Officers in Bauchi
Five dedicated police officers who fell victim to a deadly ambush by herdsmen in Bauchi State have been laid to rest in a solemn ceremony. The tragic incident occurred on November 22, 2025, in Sabon Sara village within Darazo Local Government Area, sending shockwaves through the security community.
Operation Turns Deadly in Sabon Sara
According to police authorities, the officers were part of combined police tactical units conducting a visibility patrol mission. Acting on intelligence reports, the team had embarked on the operation to prevent and manage potential farmer-herder conflicts around the Sabon Sara axis. During this critical peacekeeping mission, the officers were ambushed by what police spokesperson CSP Ahmed Wakil described as "unidentified Fulani youths".
The attack unfolded suddenly, leaving the police personnel vulnerable to the assailants' coordinated assault. Upon receiving distress signals about the ambush, Divisional Police Officer SP Auwalu Ilu immediately mobilized a reinforcement team to the scene.
Rescue Efforts and Funeral Proceedings
The reinforcement team led by SP Ilu executed a swift response, evacuating both injured and deceased personnel to General Hospital in Darazo for immediate medical attention. The remains of the fallen officers were subsequently deposited at the hospital morgue while arrangements were made for their final rites.
On Monday, November 24, 2025, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani Omolori Aliyu, led police personnel and mourners in a emotional funeral ceremony for the five gallant officers. The ceremony served as a somber reminder of the risks security personnel face while maintaining peace in conflict-prone areas.
Manhunt for Perpetrators Intensifies
Police authorities have confirmed that intense investigative efforts are underway to track down and apprehend those responsible for the heinous attack. The Bauchi State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the perpetrators face justice for their actions.
CSP Ahmed Wakil, the Police Public Relations Officer, emphasized that the Command remains fully dedicated to bringing the criminals to account for their brutal assault on the police officers. Security operations have been intensified within and around the Darazo Local Government Area to prevent further incidents and capture the fleeing suspects.
This tragic event highlights the ongoing challenges security forces face in managing the complex farmer-herder conflicts in several Nigerian states, particularly in regions like Bauchi where such tensions periodically escalate into violence.
