Tragic Ambush Claims Lives of Five Police Officers in Bauchi
The Bauchi State Police Command has been plunged into mourning after armed bandits ambushed and killed five police officers during a patrol mission in Sabon Sara village, Darazo Local Government Area. The devastating attack occurred on November 22, 2025, leaving two other officers with serious injuries.
Details of the Deadly Ambush
According to CSP Ahmed Wakil, the State Police Public Relations Officer, the tragedy unfolded around 12:40 PM when the police team received intelligence from a Good Samaritan. The officers, who were conducting visibility policing patrol to prevent and manage farmer-herder conflicts in the area, were ambushed by unidentified youths at approximately 11:30 AM.
The tactical team comprised personnel from multiple elite units including the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Mobile Police 10PMF Bauchi, Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU), and the State Intelligence Department (SID). Despite their training and preparedness, the officers fell victim to the surprise attack while performing their duties to maintain peace in the community.
Fallen Heroes and Rescue Efforts
The police command confirmed the identities of the five officers who made the supreme sacrifice during the ambush:
DSP Ahmad Muhammad from the State Intelligence Department
ASP Mustapha Muhammad from 10 PMF
Inspector Amarhel Yunusa from 10 PMF
Inspector Idris Ahmed from 10 PMF
Corporal Isah Muazu from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit
Two other officers, Inspector Isah Musa and Inspector Yusuf Gambo from the State Intelligence Department, sustained various degrees of injuries during the attack.
Upon receiving news of the ambush, SP Auwalu Ilu, the Divisional Police Officer, immediately led a reinforcement team to the scene. The team successfully evacuated both the injured and deceased personnel to Darazo General Hospital for medical treatment. The remains of the fallen officers were deposited at the hospital morgue.
Manhunt for Perpetrators and Security Response
In his statement issued on Sunday, November 23, 2025, CSP Wakil confirmed that security forces neutralized a significant number of the bandits during the confrontation. He emphasized that intense efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the remaining perpetrators within and around the area.
