Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has issued a directive for a significant tightening of security across the state during the upcoming Christmas and New Year holiday period. The order aims to ensure the absolute protection of life and property as residents celebrate.
Security Agencies Put on High Alert
The directive, delivered on behalf of the Governor by his Deputy, Alhaji Idi Gubana Barde, mandates all security agencies, including the police, to remain on high alert and scale up their operations. This heightened state of readiness is to cover the Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year holidays.
The instruction was given during the 15th State Security Coordination Committee meeting held at the Government House in Damaturu on Tuesday, December 17, 2024. Deputy Governor Barde, while addressing security stakeholders, warned against any complacency.
No Room for Complacency Despite Restored Peace
"The prevailing restored peace in the state should not breed complacency in protecting life and property during the Christmas and New Year festivities," Barde stated emphatically. He emphasized that this vigilance must extend to all communities across the state, including border areas with Niger Republic.
He further urged the various security agencies to strengthen their collaboration in the ongoing fight against terrorism and other criminal activities. "No stone will be left unturned in ensuring public safety in the state," he declared, underscoring the government's commitment.
Directive to Police Commanders
In a specific charge to the police force, the Deputy Governor directed the State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, to ensure that all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders enforce the highest level of security alerts within their jurisdictions.
Responding to the directive, Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Ado reaffirmed the police force's dedication to public safety. He gave assurances that Governor Buni's directives for a hitch-free celebration would be fully complied with to secure the lives and property of all Yobe citizens during the festive season.
