The Department of State Services (DSS), working with other security agencies and local vigilantes, rescued a 29-year-old man abducted by suspected kidnappers in Orlu, Imo State. Two suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate were killed during the operation.

Abduction Near Afor-Ogidi Market

The victim was abducted last Tuesday near Afor-Ogidi Market in Isiala Amaifeke Community, Orlu Local Government Area, according to a security source. He was returning home from the International Market in Umuna, Orlu, when the incident occurred.

The assailants, armed with assault rifles and riding two motorcycles, blocked the victim's vehicle, seized him, and took him to an undisclosed location. The kidnappers later contacted his family and demanded N15 million in ransom for his release.

Coordinated Rescue Operation

The victim was rescued in the early hours of Thursday at Ihioma Community, Orlu, following a coordinated intelligence-led operation involving the DSS, other security agencies, and local vigilantes. The security source confirmed the operation's success.

"During the operation, two suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate were neutralised, while two high-calibre weapons and ammunition were recovered," the source said. The rescued victim was secured and later reunited with his family.

The source said the operation highlighted the growing collaboration among security agencies and local vigilantes in tackling criminal activities. This partnership aims to disrupt kidnapping networks and prevent violent criminals from operating freely across the country.
